Jack Moran Certified as OSBA Labor & Employment Law Specialist

McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co., LPA is pleased to share that the Ohio State Bar Association has announced the certification of Jack Moran as a Certified Labor & Employment Law Specialist. Jack is a Principal attorney at McCarthy Lebit and a member of the firm’s Employment Law practice group. Among the newly certified attorneys announced at the end of January 2024, Jack is one of 13 attorneys recognized as specialists in five distinct legal practice areas. In receiving this certification, Jack is now one of only 107 lawyers in the area of employment and labor law with this exclusive distinction.

“These attorneys have gone above and beyond, completing rigorous study and examination to earn this credential and set themselves apart to both clients and colleagues. It is an impressive achievement that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to professional excellence,” said OSBA President Michelle Kranz in the January OSBA announcement.

The Ohio State Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Law Specialty Program is accredited by the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on Certification of Attorneys as Specialists (CCAS). In its accreditation process, the CCAS acknowledges certifying agencies, and notably, the Ohio State Bar Association holds the distinction of being the largest such agency in the state of Ohio. The CCAS, established by the Supreme Court of Ohio, plays a pivotal role in identifying legal specialties and establishing minimum standards for specialty certification. The CCAS standards not only assess whether an attorney Certified under the program exhibits an elevated proficiency, expertise, and engagement in labor and employment law but also aim to promote continuous professional development and heightened expertise in the field.

Certified Specialists are selected by the Ohio State Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Board following the completion of a rigorous process, which includes:

  1. Evidence showing substantial involvement in the practice of labor and employment law for an extended period of time.
  2. A large volume of teaching or attendance at educational events regarding labor and employment issues.
  3. At least seven recommendations from peers in the area of law.
  4. Passage of a written examination.

Along with Principal attorney Ann-Marie Ahern, the firm now boasts two labor and employment specialists. “I’m thankful for the firm’s support in achieving the certification,” remarked Jack. “The OSBA’s designation is just one piece of evidence, among many, demonstrating the strength of our group’s knowledge base and skills.”

“Jack is an outstanding and highly experienced employment lawyer. The OSBA certification process is rigorous, requiring peer and judge recommendations as well as a comprehensive examination. Attaining certified specialist status is another demonstration of Jack’s commitment to the practice area and to delivering the best results for our clients,” said Ann-Marie Ahern.
