Overview

José Nuñez is an Associate attorney at McCarthy Lebit, with a focus on the firm’s transactional practice groups. His practice spans the firm’s Banking & Finance, Business & Corporate, Litigation, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Real Estate & Construction practice groups. He has diverse legal experience encompassing all facets of litigation and transactional matters.

Prior to joining McCarthy Lebit, José gained well-rounded legal experience through a variety of roles in both litigation and transactional settings. As a judicial extern for Judge Fleming in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, he developed a strong foundation in legal analysis and gained valuable insight into the judicial decision-making process. He also clerked for two law firms, where he assisted with matters ranging from criminal and civil defense to estate planning and family law. In addition, his role as a Certified Legal Intern for the Canton Prosecutor’s Office provided practical experience in prosecutorial proceedings and further strengthened his litigation skills.

José received his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania before continuing his education at the University of Akron School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor. During law school, he pursued a concurrent Master of Business Administration and Business Law Certificate from the University of Akron. Throughout law school, he gained practical hands-on experience by drafting litigation documents, conducting legal research, supporting estate planning and corporate transactions, and participating in courtroom proceedings. His interdisciplinary background in law and business provides a strong foundation for navigating complex legal and commercial issues with a strategic perspective. José is also fluent in Spanish, which enables him to communicate effectively with a broad range of clients and communities.

While earning his JD and MBA at the University of Akron, José held several leadership and academic roles, including President of the Black Law Student Association, President of the Asian & Hispanic Law Student Association, Vice President and competitor for the Moot Court Honor Society, and a teaching assistant for the 1L legal writing courses.
