Overview
Douglas J. (DJ) Carter is an Associate attorney in the firm’s transactional practice group, where he assists businesses, developers, property owners, and other clients with transactional matters. His practice touches on real estate, business and corporate matters, and mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on the preparation, review, and completion of transactional documents and related legal processes.
DJ began his legal career with McCarthy Lebit as a law clerk in 2025 while attending Case Western Reserve University School of Law. During that time, he gained exposure to a variety of the firm’s practice areas and worked alongside attorneys on a range of legal matters, providing him with a well-rounded introduction to the practice of law. That experience helped shape his focus on transactional law, with an emphasis on the legal work that supports business relationships, commercial activity, and strategic transactions. Today, he applies that foundation as an attorney in the firm’s Transactions group.
His real estate work includes drafting and reviewing purchase and sale agreements, closing documents, contracts, and commercial lease agreements. He also conducts title and survey reviews and aids in real estate due diligence, helping identify and organize information relevant to commercial property transactions. His work encompasses matters involving acquisition, disposition, leasing, and other transactional aspects of commercial real estate.
In business and corporate matters, DJ contributes to business and entity formation, corporate restructuring, and the preparation and review of commercial contracts and financing documents. He also assists with the analysis and documentation of contractual and financing arrangements and the legal considerations associated with establishing and restructuring business entities.
He also participates in legal due diligence and assists with the review, organization, and analysis of information relevant to M&A transactions. This work involves examining business, corporate, contractual, real estate, and other legal considerations that may be relevant to an acquisition or other strategic transaction.
DJ earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Miami University and his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
